For this exercise the goal was to create an attractive but mainly informative illustration. For this purpose we were giving some options on which to base our illustration. I choose to create a piece explaining how to make a cup of tea, specifically a “detox tea”. I searched for examples of this type of illustrations and also for references about tea (cups, herbs, kettles... ) Then I wrote down the necessary steps, made the first sketch to define them and show it to another person to see if it was clear. I found that it wasn’t 100% clear so I made two other versions. Then I made my final illustrations with pencil, pen and markers, I scanned them in the computer and developed it further with Photoshop. It was a very fulfilling exercise to do, I enjoy using markers in my work and was pleasantly surprised to see that I work well when I scan it and it can develop into a final piece. I was also very interested in this exercise since I find that the main point of illustrating is to translate ideas into images. Creating an illustration that shares a message and serves another purpose than being decorative, one is where I find value. In comparison with the previous exercise where we created an abstract illustration, I’m more interested in developing this type of work.
